Patient charged with theft of cell phone from hospital desk

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man being treated at a hospital has been charged after leaving with something that wasn't his.

An arrest warrant says on May 3, Timothy S. McCurley, 28, of Louisville, was a patient at Suburban Hospital in St. Matthews and took a cell phone from the desk drawer of an employee.

Within 30 minutes of the phone being taken St. Matthews police said it was sold at an ECO ATM at the Hikes Point Kroger by a woman. While St. Matthews detectives said McCurley did not sell the phone he was seen in a surveillance photo taken at the time of the sale.

The woman told police she was asked to sell the phone by McCurley because he didn't have identification.

McCurley is charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking under $500.
