Kentucky Urban Entertainment Awards honors industry favorites

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky musicians, DJs and others in the entertainment industry were honored at the Kentucky Urban Entertainment Awards in Louisville on Saturday.
The Elitegiance DJs hosted the awards to recognize those who are making their mark in the business across the state and nationwide. Awards were given in 32 categories, including best lyricist, favorite clothing line, music video of the year and many more.
Nominations were open to the public in May, then fans were able to vote for the nominees online. More than 3,500 votes were cast to determine the winners.

Louisville native Bryson Tiller was honored with the Static Major Award, in recognition of his worldwide success. Static Major's longtime friend and manager Dorian Washington presented the award, which was accepted by Tiller's uncle, Terry Cotton.
Living Legend Awards were given to rapper Hurra Season and engineer KY Finis.
DJ Slikk and DJ Empty Beats appeared on Weekend Sunrise on Saturday to present the Community Activist of the Year Award to Shaun King, a Franklin County native who now lives and works in New York. King is a columnist for New York Daily News and is very outspoken about civil rights and community justice.

The awards show, which took place at Coconut Beach Night Club, featured live performances by Jef Jon Sin, Erick Tandy, Jai and Breadboy. There was also a red carpet event for the nominees prior to the show.
