Man charged with robbery, kidnapping in gas station carjacking

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man accused of holding another man at knife point at a gas station before carjacking him was taken into custody.

Jamie Hembree, 28, was arrested Friday and charged with robbery in kidnapping, according to Shively Police Department Sgt. Josh Myers.

According to police, Hembree approached the victim at the Thornton's Gas Station in the 4500 block of Dixie Highway at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday and asked for a ride.

When the victim said no, police said Hembree showed a knife and forced him into his own car. He then told the victim to start driving south on Dixie Highway. When they got to the intersection of Upper Hunters Trace he told him to pull over in the Hooters parking lot.

He demanded the victim's money and the keys to his truck, a 2000 black Ford Ranger with the Kentucky license tag 678-GNM.
