Shively police investigating homicide near Dixie Highway
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Shively Police Department is working a murder in the 1800 block of Appleton Lane.
For the past few days, something felt wrong to the Stewart family. Their loved one wasn't picking up the phone.
"His friends were calling me. They just said something happened to him, to come over here," Nayatta Elliot, the victim's sister, told WAVE 3 News.
Sunday morning police were called for a welfare check. Officers broke a window to get into the victim's apartment. They found him shot to death on the floor, his body blocking the door.
The victim, who the coroner has not yet identified, was just in his 30's, according to police. He had three children, the victim's grandmother, Lois Elizabeth Stewart, told WAVE 3 News.
"It just seemed like nothing was wrong with him," she said.
Detectives think the man was murdered.
"He showed no signs that anything was going on that could lead to this," added Ingia Stewart, the victim's sister.
No arrests have been made and police haven't released any information about a suspect(s). Police are unsure when the victim died.
For now, however, his family is left waiting for answers.
"If you didn't know him, he would walk up to you and make you laugh," Elliot said.
