14-year-old boy shot dead in Smoketown identified

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 14-year-old boy who was shot and killed in the Smoketown neighborhood Wednesday has been identified as Troyvonte Hurt.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Hunt died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting near the intersection of Clay and Jacob streets.

Two other people were also shot during the incident, which was reported about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday. They are expected to survive.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.

Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Brislin said Hunt had been assigned to Minor Daniels Academy and was an 8th grader at Meyzeek Middle School last year. The district sent grief counselors to both schools on Thursday to support students and staff who requested assistance.
