LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating after a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed by his younger brother in the 3000 block of Penway Avenue on Sunday afternoon in the Hallmark neighborhood.
The call came into MetroSafe just after noon Sunday of a report of a self-inflicted shooting. When police arrived, they found Tremain Brown, Jr., who had been shot. Brown, 12, died of a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m., according to the Jo-Ann Farmer of the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. His autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
An investigation, along with family interviews, revealed that Brown's brother, who is also a juvenile, accidentally shot him, according to a press release.
The age of the shooter has not been released.
The LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation and still working to determine how the shooter obtained the weapon.
Tremain Brown attended Stuart Middle School. Counselors were being made available to students, faculty and staff.
