LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Every year, dozens of children take their last breath inside sweltering hot vehicles. Now, one woman's invention could be the key to saving lives.
Martha Duran designed a long cord that attaches to the driver's door and the door handle in the back seat. When the driver opens their door, the cord tightens to remind them there is a child in the backseat.
"It's about saving the babies," Duran said. "It's about the devastation that parents must feel after they lose a child."
Duran is working on getting a patent for the device.
