Pedestrian hit by taxi near Louisville Slugger Field

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A pedestrian was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a taxi in downtown Louisville.

The accident was reported near Louisville Slugger Field around 9:10 p.m. Friday, according to MetroSafe.

Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said a man who had been drinking tried to cross Witherspoon Street near Floyd Street when he was hit by a cab driving westbound on Witherspoon. Smiley said the man was not in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Smiley said he was listed in serious condition.

MetroSafe said the taxi involved did stop. The driver of the cab and two passengers were not injured, according to Smiley.

The Louisville Metro Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
