ESPN bringing 'College GameDay' to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's official, ESPN's 'College GameDay' is coming to Louisville.

ESPN confirmed late Saturday night, via Twitter, that it will bring its uber-popular 'College GameDay Built by the Home Depot' show to the city for the University of Louisville football team's Top 15 showdown with Florida State.

UofL also confirmed the show's first-ever trip to Louisville with a press release late Saturday.

"We're excited to have ESPN College GameDay coming to Louisville," UofL Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Jurich said in the release. "The show's presence here is really a great tribute to our football program. I know our fans will embrace all of the pageantry surrounding Saturday's event and carry that enthusiasm into the stadium to support our team during the game."

UofL and FSU will match 2-0 records, and national rankings (the Seminoles are No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 and the Cardinals are No. 13) at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon, but GameDay featured games are rarely at noon, so it remains to be seen if the kick time will be changed.

The Cards and Seminoles feature high-octane offenses, and Saturday's game could give UofL quarterback Lamar Jackson, an early-season Heisman Trophy frontrunner, a chance to showcase his skills in front of a national television audience.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer got UofL football fans in a GameDay state of mind earlier Saturday.

The Seminoles visited Louisville in 2014, the Cards' first season in the ACC. UofL jumped on reigning national champion FSU and its Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, Jameis Winston, before Florida State pulled away in the fourth quarter. The Seminoles went on to play in the first-ever college football playoff, where they fell to Oregon. FSU beat Louisville a little more easily last season in Tallahassee, Fla.

College GameDay is a three-hour pregame show that gets football fans across America ready for the day's action every Saturday in the fall. Thousands of fans often show up early in the morning to provide a rowdy backdrop behind the set that features ESPN personalities Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and others. The show dedicates a segment that features the most creative signs each week.
