LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman is facing charges after her young grandson was found wandering outside a nearby high school.

Kim Regina Young, 54, of Louisville, is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Just after noon September 10, Louisville Metro police were called to Central High School, 1130 W. Chestnut, after a two-year-old boy was found wandering around on his own. The people who found the child said he had been with them for more than an hour and no one had come looking for him.

Metro police said the boy was dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and socks, but was in need of a diaper change. The investigation led police to the 500 block of Quest Drive in the City View Apartments and to Young.

Young, according to her arrest report, was watching the boy, who is her grandson, while the child's mother was at work. Young told police she fell asleep while the child was eating and watching television and that he must have unlocked the door and wandered off.

In addition to the endangering the welfare of a minor charge, Young was also arrested on outstanding warrants for assault (domestic violence) minor injury and criminal mischief from an incident earlier this year.

During her arraignment at Louisville Metro Corrections, Young was ordered released from jail on her own recognizance. Her next court date was set for September 22.
