Police: Suspect confessed to murder of MS nuns

DURANT, MS (WAVE) - The man police in the stabbing deaths of two nuns in Mississippi has admitted to the crime, police say.

According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Rodney Early Sanders, 46, confessed to killing Sister Margaret Held and Sister Paula Merrill in their Durant, Mississippi home.

Sister Paula, a native of Massachusetts, was a member of the Nelson County-based Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

Authorities say the alleged confession occurred during a taped interview on the day Sanders was arrested and charged with capital murder.

Sanders is being held without bond while a grand jury considers the case.
