HARDIN COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Five students were taken to an area hospital after a school bus was involved in a crash with a passenger vehicle in Hardin County.

The crash was reported at about 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 65 near the 102 mile marker. That's close to the Joe Prather Highway exit.

The school bus is from Hart County and had 38 students on board, according to the Hardin County Sheriff's Office. A spokesperson from Hart County schools said the students were returning from a science club field trip in Louisville.

The Sheriff's Office said five of the students on the bus were taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital to be checked for injuries. The other students were transferred to a Hardin County school bus and taken to the Pritchard Community Center where they were picked up by a Hart County school bus and taken home.

Two people in the passenger vehicle were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with what Hardin County officials said appeared to be serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
