LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Tuesday, the highly-rated Smoketown USA announced its closing its doors immediately.

Founded in 2007, the restaurant was one of Louisville's highest rated restaurants on Yelp and was on nationally televised food programs twice.

The owner, Eric Gould, nicknamed himself "The Redneck Jew."

"I think we're tired," Gould said. "We built and we helped and we changed this neighborhood."

Tuesday morning, Gould and his wife posted a statement on Facebook that read in part, "We are proud to be able to say that Smoketown USA has been a success and that his goal has been achieved."

The statement said Gould, "decided to close the restaurant in order to pursue new adventures."

In an interview, Gould said there's another reason Smoketown USA and other Louisville restaurants have closed in recent weeks.

"We have so many restaurants in Louisville," Gould said. "We're waiting for shifts. Here comes a hotel event coming up. We're into quarters now. It's very hard in restaurant world if you can't have a continual busy all the time business."

Gould said for now he and his wife will focus on her passion, antiquing, and do yard sales. He said he'll likely do catering and possibly start a new restaurant in the future.

"Redneck Jew BBQ is the next name," Gould said.
