LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries early Monday morning in a collision with a passenger vehicle on 7th Street Road. A third vehicle then ran over the motorcyclist, a Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman said.

The wreck, which was reported about 3:30 a.m. Monday, shut down 7th Street Road between Berry Boulevard and Oleanda Avenue for several hours.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a passenger vehicle hit the motorcycle while trying to make a U-turn from the right lane of northbound 7th Street Road into the southbound lanes, LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said. The motorcycle had been traveling north on 7th Street Road.

The operator of the motorcycle flipped over the vehicle and landed on the roadway. A third vehicle that also was northbound on 7th Street Road ran over the motorcyclist who was lying in the roadway.

The motorcyclist was rushed to University of Louisville Hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries, Mitchell said.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate.
