MERCER COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – Forty-two horses found on a Mercer County farm no longer belong to the people accused of abandoning them.

A Mercer County Fiscal Court judge ruled on Friday Charles Borell and his daughter, horse trainer Maria Borell, no longer own the 42 horses.

The ruling states Charles Borell gave up ownership on Sept. 29 when he entered an Alford plea of guilty to nine counts of second degree animal cruelty.

The horses were found without any food or water in June.

Six horses were returned to previous owners, the other 36 will be located in permanent homes.
