MOUNT WASHINGTON, KY (WAVE) - The owner of a Bullitt County donut shop was seriously injured early Wednesday morning when he was shot in the head outside his business.

It happened around 1 a.m. at Donut King, located at 10731 KY44 in Mount Washington.

Donut King owner, Simon Yeung, was shot twice in the head outside his back door.

"We haven't had anything like this, that we can think of," Mount Washington police detective Sgt. Dan Kelty said.

Police released surveillance video of a car that they say was seen in the area at the time. They say it could possibly be a late model light colored Ford Focus. Detectives are now asking for the public's to help identify the owner or occupants of the car.

Police believe two people are involved, but say the motive is not clear because nothing was taken from the business. Those that work nearby are now on edge.

"We've never really had a whole lot of crime around here," Robert Knowles, who works nearby, said.

Knowles said when he got to work, he noticed Yeung's car out of place.

"His truck was parked a little closer to our back door than usual," Knowles said. "Normally his is parked right behind his back door, but it's almost to our backdoor and I thought that was kind of strange."

Those that know the owner say he always works overnight preparing the donuts. Many described Yeung as a great person and family man.

"Good character, compassionate, loyal to his customers," Marilyn Young, who works next door, said.

The doughnut shop remains closed until further notice.

Donut King has made sure to keep its customers updated via their Facebook page. They posted they are waiting to hear from doctors and thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

"My dad has and is still showing me how a man should be. He puts others before himself, he's hardworking, loyal, honest, and giving," reads a post on Donut King's Facebook page.

A later post said orders will be canceled. "We will refund your money as soon as possible," it went on to say.
