LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The next school year seems pretty far off, but for some parents it's already time to start thinking about where you want your child to go.

Jefferson County Public Schools held its annual Showcase of Schools on Saturday at the Kentucky Expo Center to show off all of the district's options.

Parents could get info about magnet programs, transportation options and how to apply.

Local leaders said it's an opportunity to focus on the things JCPS schools are doing well.

"You always hear about the bad side of it, and obviously you've got to address those issues, you've got to make things work," Senator Gerald Neal said. "But Kentucky, Jefferson County has some great schools doing some great things."

The online application period opens on Monday and runs through Jan. 6.
