LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Bardstown Police Department Captain McKenzie Mattingly has been using a video surveillance doorbell provided by for the last four weeks.
"I just like the peace of mind that no matter where I'm at I can see who's outside my door," Mattingly said.

Bardstown Police has been evaluating the doorbell as a crime prevention tool. When the bell is pressed, the homeowner can see and speak with visitors at their door, from any location.
The camera is equipped with night vision and smart motion detection. The department was impressed with the product during their trial. They've partnered with the company to give residents a special discount.

"We're attaching our name to it," Mattingly said. "Just as a criminal may go up to a home and be deterred by the fact that they may have cameras, or a decal showing that they have a home security system, or a sign in their landscaping. Maybe they'll see these video doorbells and recognize them."
The push for the surveillance doorbells is coming just in time for the holidays.
"There's always an uptick in property crimes around the holidays for multiple reasons," Mattingly said.
Folks in the community like Vicki Hahn are considering bringing a surveillance doorbell to their homes.
"Things are changing in Bardstown as they are everywhere," Hahn said. "You kind of get a little afraid."
