LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - More than 100 people have died by suicide in Jefferson County this year, according to the coroner's office.

Despite the prevalence of suicide, it often goes undiscussed. A summit at Spalding University on Wednesday and Thursday is trying to change that.

The first-ever Bold Moves Against Suicide Summit is bringing together doctors, educators, charities, church groups and others to try to reduce the rate of suicide, with an ultimate goal of "Zero Suicide."

"Most people don't realize that there's more suicides in the community than there are homicides," Mayor Greg Fischer said. "So it's important that we come out and lean into this issue."
