Shively shooting suspect turns himself in

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man is facing charges in connection to a shooting in Shively that prompted two schools to elevate security.

Derek Graves, 36, turned himself in through an attorney on Thursday evening after a female was shot in the 2600 block of Lomond Drive around 3 p.m., according to Shively Police Department Sgt. Josh Myers.

The victim was taken to an area hospital. Myers said she is expected to recover.

Students at Crums Lane and Schaffner Elementary were held at school until 4 pm. While police searched the area.

Graves was booked into Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and charged with assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
