RADCLIFF, KY (WAVE) - A Hardin County man was charged Monday in his roommate's murder after she was found stabbed to death inside their apartment.

Kimberly Mayberger had been reported missing by a family member on Nov. 11. Police found her body Monday evening in the apartment she shared with Paul Ellefritz on Park Avenue in Radcliff.

According to arrest reports, Ellefritz had been interviewed about Mayberger's disappearance Sunday. He was arrested Monday afternoon after a loss prevention employee at the Radcliff Walmart notified police that Ellefritz had just shoplifted a 22 pound bag of dog food.

Police said Ellefritz tried to escape police custody by leaving the booking room of the Radcliff Police Department about 5 p.m. Monday and walking down the hallway to an exit. He was apprehended while trying to unlock the door.

Ellefritz is charged with murder, shoplifting and third-degree escape.
