According to arrest reports, Ellefritz had been interviewed about Mayberger's disappearance Sunday. He was arrested Monday afternoon after a loss prevention employee at the Radcliff Walmart notified police that Ellefritz had just shoplifted a 22 pound bag of dog food.

Police said Ellefritz tried to escape police custody by leaving the booking room of the Radcliff Police Department about 5 p.m. Monday and walking down the hallway to an exit. He was apprehended while trying to unlock the door.

Ellefritz is charged with murder, shoplifting and third-degree escape.
