Angel Tree adoptions happening now in WAVE Country
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Salvation Army Angel Tree adoptions are happening now through Dec. 11 at Mall of St. Matthews, Jefferson Mall and Oxmoor Mall.
With the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, you can help a local child have a happy holiday season. When you adopt an Angel, you agree to purchase toys from the wish lists of local kids. Volunteers, including many from WAVE 3 News, help distribute those toys to needy families in mid-December. The distribution in Louisville is moving this year from the old Male campus to 6306 Kenjoy Drive.
Adoptions begin at participating Walmart stores in Jefferson County on Nov. 26. In Southern Indiana, adoptions begin Nov. 25 at Green Tree Mall.
Shoppers at local Kroger stores can purchase Food Angels to help provide a nourishing meal for families in need. Food Angels can be picked up at Kroger stores and added to the bill at checkout.
On Dec. 13, WAVE 3 News will hold its annual Angel-A-Thon to raise money to help purchase toys to fill in the gaps for children who haven't been adopted. Last year, viewers donated more than $63,000. This year, the goal will be to top $65,000. In addition, WAVE 3 News gets behind this project with news coverage, public service announcements, Angel adoptions and many hours of volunteering.
"We are so pleased to be working again with Salvation Army on Angel Tree as we have for many years," WAVE 3 News Vice President and General Manager Ken Selvaggi said. "This is an important way to give back to a community that has been so good to us. Our employees are behind this, and we can't say enough good things about Salvation Army and their commitment to serving the needs here in WAVE Country all year long. This is a great team effort."
