LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A woman shot and killed a man who was attempting to break into her home, according to her son.
Louisville Metro police officers were called to the 3800 block of Northumberland Drive in the Worthington Hills neighborhood on a report of a shooting around 3:20 p.m. Friday.
The homeowner's son, Bruce Haddix, said he was at the gym when he got a call from his mom saying people were trying to break into their house. He said he raced home, but by that time he said his mom shot one of the men trying to break in.
Haddix said his mother bought a gun last year for protection, and he's glad she did.

"They was shaking the doors (for) 30 minutes. They were posted up outside the house, waiting 30 minutes on top of that. So they were here for over an hour probably," Haddix said. "Then they finally broke the window out of the back door (and) tried to come in. My mom stepped out of the hallway with her gun, got one shot off, and she got somebody."
Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley confirmed the men made it inside the home when the shot was fired.
Smiley said the Commonwealth Attorney determined no charges will be filed against the homeowner.
The surviving suspect, Aaron McDuffie, 23, was charged with murder and burglary.
The man killed was 23-year-old Eric Gathwright. He died of a gun-shot wound, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bob Jones.
