NELSON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - The father of a missing Nelson County, KY woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning in a hunting incident.

The Kentucky State Police received a call from the Nelson County Sheriff's Office just before 8 a.m. Saturday morning, requesting their assistance with a death investigation in the 1000 block of Ed Brent Lane in Bardstown.

Police say the victim was heading into the woods to go hunting when he was shot.

The family of Crystal Rogers, the mother of five who disappeared in July of 2015, say the victim was Rogers' father, Tommy Ballard. Ballard, 54, was heading out to go hunting with his grandson when he was shot, the family said.

Gill Ballard, Tommy Ballard's father confirmed to WAVE 3 News that Tommy Ballard was on Casey Ballard's property when the incident happened. Casey Ballard is Rogers' brother.
