Man killed when SUV crashed into building identified

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man was killed early Tuesday morning when the SUV he was driving crashed into a building in the California neighborhood.
Louisville Metro police said the incident happened about 12:56 a.m. when the driver, who was traveling south on South 12th Street, swerved into the opposite lane of traffic, ran onto the sidewalk, hit a light pole and continued along the sidewalk before crossing St. Catherine Street. He then drove onto the sidewalk on the south side of St. Catherine and hit a building.
Carl Russell Jr., 50, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Russell died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
