LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 16-year-old has been indicted for murder after police say he accidentally killed his friend while trying to return fire during a drive-by shooting in August.
Dominique Coleman is now charged as an adult in connection with the death of 14-year-old Troyvonte Hurt. His name was not publicly released until he was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday.
Coleman and Hurt were part of a group that was targeted in a shooting at Clay and Jacob streets on Aug. 24, police say. Coleman and others returned fire. A bullet from Coleman's gun struck Hurt in the back of the head. Hurt died at the scene as he was being cradled by his brother, his mother told WAVE 3 News.
Coleman and a 24-year-old were also injured in the shooting.
