19-year-old man identified as Park Hill homicide victim

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 19-year-old man has been identified as the person shot to death in the Park Hill neighborhood Thursday.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Javon Jackson died of multiple gunshot wounds.

In March, Jackson was arrested for pulling a gun on a woman and stealing her car. But friends said Jackson didn't always lead a life involved in crime. He was an excellent basketball player.

"I think he just fell victim to his environment," Jackson's friend, Ralo Felipe, said. "He used to block my shot to the bleachers all the time. We called him long arms. He had really long arms a real nice wing span. As far as I'm concerned he should have been playing ball."

The shooting happened near the intersection of 12th and Hill Streets Thursday afternoon. LMPD officers happened to roll up on the scene and found Jackson lying in the street about 3 p.m.

It's not clear what led to the shooting.

No one has been charged in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous police tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
