LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A special gift card drive hopes to help adults and children surviving partner abuse and sexual violence have a brighter holiday season.
The Center for Women and Families has partnered with Republic Bank to sponsor the 2016 Holiday Gift card Drive.
The Center asked the community to deliver gift cards in increments of $25 instead of bringing gifts to the shelter. They said the gift cards will allow parents to buy what their children need and want the most.
The Center said giving choices and control back to a domestic or sexual assault survivor gives them empowerment. They said gift cards also allow those living in an emergency shelter to safely shop online for holiday gifts and nonresidential support groups to shop together on designated shopping days.
"Shopping online just makes so much sense for our clients who cannot safely leave our shelter to shop because of threats to their lives and the lives of their children," said Marta Miranda, President/CEO at The Center for Women and Families. "Giving survivors the power that comes along with making decisions about which gifts will bring the most joy to their family is what The Center's mission is all about."
The drive ends December 20th.
Gift cards can be dropped off at Republic Bank and Center for Women and Families locations listed below.
