LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville mother has been charged with driving under the influence of Percocet with her children in the back seat.

Louisville Metro Police arrested Natalie Nichols, 31, on Thursday evening. Nichols was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

LMPD said they were called about Nichols standing outside a black Toyota for 30 minutes while two children cried inside. The caller told police that after getting into her car, Nichols almost backed into another vehicle and looked intoxicated.

LMPD said Nichols drove onto Shelbyville Road near I-265 and rear-ended a vehicle. According to her arrest report, the officer on scene said Nichols had tightly constricted pupils, red eyes, and was acting disoriented.  LMPD said Nichols' daughter and son were in the back seat.

Police said Nichols could not find her drivers license or insurance card and kept staring off. An officer had to remind Nichols several times to look for the correct cards. After copying down the vehicle information, the officer came back to find Nichols passed out and had to shake her awake.

LMPD said Nichols admitted to taking Percocet before driving.
