Shoplifter gets caught by off-duty officer, leads authorities on chase

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A chance encounter at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass turned into a high speed chase and felony arrest Saturday.

An officer working an off-duty assignment was at the Ralph Lauren Polo Outlet, when he spotted a shoplifter and approached him.

The man then fled to his vehicle, where the officer tried to stop him. He then took off in his car, almost hit the officer, and headed down I-64.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's office, the ensuing chase saw the suspect do a u-turn on 64 and head the opposite direction of traffic into east Louisville.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's office and LMPD assisted in the chase, and eventually stopped the man on Taylorsville Rd.

The man was arrested on multiple felony charges. There was a female passenger in the car, the suspect's girlfriend. She has not been arrested.
