Cards fans pack downtown to celebrate Heisman win

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – For the historic Heisman night, dozens of Cardinal faithful headed to Fourth St Live! for the official watch party.

Some crowded around outdoor heaters but most headed into the Sports and Social Club on the strip. The predictable result didn't cut down on any excitement as the announcement was made.

"Oh my God," Adrienne Jones-James shouted. "The city showed out for him. It's red down here, we love it."

"If we couldn't win a national championship, this was the next best thing, the Heisman," John Nevitt, another Cards fan at the watch party said. "Lamar Jackson, the city of Louisville, the University of Louisville. I couldn't be more excited as a fan or more proud of one of our great players."

Some fans said they always thought Jackson would win but still had some nerves towards the end of the season.

"I really thought he had it but just didn't know," Cliff Rowland said. "I thought Deshaun was right there with him, so you just didn't know who it was going to be."

Jackson and the Cards finish out their season with the LSU Tigers on New Year's Eve.
