LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Martean Brown feels nothing but heartbreak when she looks at images of her son, 32-year-old Troy Redd.

Redd was murdered at the Cross Creek Apartments in New Albany on Aug. 24. His alleged killer, 20-year-old Jordan Richie, was arrested on Monday in Louisville.

"It still hurts," Brown said. "Yeah there was justice, but my baby's still gone."

Redd was a local rapper and commonly referred to as T-Redd. He was also a father of three. Brown said his oldest child is struggling with his father's death.

Redd died from a single gunshot wound. The motive is still under investigation, but authorities do know what led up to the shooting.

"Mr. Redd was out in the parking lot," Floyd County prosecutor Keith Henderson said. "There was money involved. They were gambling. There was gambling if you will."

It took police 11 days to track down Richie once they issued a warrant for him. A surveillance video, witness interviews and ballistics were a few of the factors leading to his arrest.

"It's a very complicated case," New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said.

However, it's simple for Brown. Her son is gone and she's ready to face his alleged killer.

"I gotta forgive him because then I won't be at peace you know with myself," Brown said. "It's going to be hard. I want to see his face. I want to look him in his face and ask why he take my baby."

Richie will be extradited to Indiana from Louisville. He faces anywhere from 45 to 65 years in prison for murder.
