FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) – A interim secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet has been appointed.
Governor Matt Bevin announced Tuesday Don Parkinson will serve as interim following Hal Heiner's resignation.
Heiner resigned from the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet on Monday to accept an appointment to the Board of Education.
Bevin said Heiner's resignation was not a surprise and was something they had discussed for nearly a year.
Parkinson is currently the secretary of Tourism, Arts and Heritage. Bevin said Deputy secretary Regina Stivers will fill in for Parkinson.
