Judge dismisses charges against former Bullitt Co. chief deputy

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Criminal charges against the former chief deputy of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office have been dismissed.
Bullitt Circuit Court Judge Rodney Burress dismissed the charges against John Cottrell without prejudice. That means charges could be brought against him again.

In September 2017, Cottrell was indicted by a grand jury for theft of a legend drug, abuse of public trust less than $10,000, tampering with physical evidence, misapplication of entrusted property and official misconduct.
At the time he was fired by Sheriff Dave Greenwell, said he was investigating Greenwell for "serious criminal activity."
