LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Lane closures on Main Street in downtown Louisville has forced the Kentucky Derby Festival to make adjustments to the course for Saturday's miniMarathon and Marathon.
The lane closures are in a three block stretch of Main Street between 4th and 7th Streets. That means within the first two miles of the races all runners will go west on Market Street instead of Main Street.
"All downtown traffic is being rerouted on Main Street in this area and the Kentucky Derby Festival is no exception," said Shanna Ward, race director for the Kentucky Derby Festival. "Fortunately because these are minor changes to the course, they will have minimal impact on the runners' experience."
Both the KDF miniMarathon and Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Louisville and finish at Preston and Witherspoon Streets. The course also takes runners through the main gate at Churchill Downs for a lap through the infield.
