Man sentenced to years in prison for New Albany homicide

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - A Louisville man has been sentenced to nearly two decades in jail for a deadly shooting in New Albany.

Police said Deante Williams, 18, fired shots into a car hitting Richard Cozart Jr. It happened in January of 2017.

Someone drove Cozart to the hospital, where he died.

Williams told police he was aiming for the driver of the car, not Cozart.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Williams was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.
