LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 78-year-old Campbellsville man was tased and arrested after a standoff with police.
The Campbellsville Police Department (CPD) said they received a call at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday from a woman who stated that Elwin Hardin claimed he was armed with a .357 magnum and was going to kill someone.
CPD, Kentucky State Police and the Taylor County Sheriff Office arrived at Hardin's Durrett Street home, tried to make contact with him over an intercom and phone but failed.
Police explained that Hardin did answer the phone once and told the officer that "he was not coming out but for officers to come to the door he had a surprise for all of them."
Officers continued to try to talk with Hardin but they said he only came to the front door quickly with a pistol in his hand and then closed the door.
Eventually, police said a family member was able to convince Hardin to come outside without a gun but he did walk outside with a gun in hand anyway. Officers tased Hardin and arrested him without further incident.
Hardin was taken to Taylor County Regional Hospital to be cleared by doctors. He is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, menacing and terroristic threatening.
