Hats Off Day at Kentucky Horse Park

Hats Off to Kentucky's Horse Industry Day is a day to celebrate and promote Kentucky's Horse Industry. It's the only day everyone can visit the park and see all that it has to offer for free. The day includes children's arts and crafts, free pony rides, educational booths, interactive equine stations, Grand Prix Show Jumping, etc.

Have you ever seen a horse fly? The Rood and Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix is a challenging show jumping competition between international horses and riders. The event features top-level show jumpers that soar over thirteen different 5-foot fences. Each horse and rider attempt to go through each obstacle with the least number of faults (dropped rails, refusals, and time exceeding recommendations) in conjunction with the fastest time. It's taking place in the outdoor Rolex Stadium.

The horse industry in Kentucky generates 80,000-100,000 in direct and indirect jobs, and impacts the state's economy by an estimated 8 billion dollars.

Turnip the Beet

Kids can be culinary experts after some time with Turnip the Beet. Turnip the Beet is a hands-on culinary and pastry arts school for children ages 18 months and up. Some of the foods kids can learn how to make include soft pretzels, pizza, and pasta from scratch. Kids learn basic culinary skills like how to measure, chop, saute and how to properly use knives. Classes are for children ages 2-16, with a majority of them for ages 8-12.

All classes are hands-on and interactive. Each child is involved in every step of the cooking process and brings food home. Classes are kept small so each child can be attended to and be fully involved.

Turnip the Beet wants to instill health-conscious values in kids and give them the confidence to experiment with their own food creations in the future.
