GM Spinoff Closing Anderson, Louisiana Parts Plants

(ANDERSON, Ind.) -- Guide Corporation notified Anderson officials Wednesday that it plans to shut its factory there.

Guide also plans to close a plant in Monroe, Louisiana. The decision would put more than 1,300 people in the Anderson area out of work.

The closing would end a chapter for the auto industry in this central Indiana industrial center that once employed 24,000 General Motors workers.

Guide's corporate headquarters is at its technology and service center in Pendleton, just outside of Anderson.

The company generally has struggled financially since GM spun it off in 1998.
