Jefferson Co. Clerk Holsclaw to enter governor's race

FRANKFORT, KY (AP) - Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw will enter the Republican race for Kentucky governor.

Holsclaw told The Associated Press on Sunday that she and Bill Vermillion, a retired Navy officer from Leitchfield who will be her running mate, plan to file candidacy papers on Tuesday. She has been Jefferson County's clerk since 1999.

Holsclaw's entry makes the GOP primary a three-way race. State Senate President David Williams and Louisville businessman Phil Moffett, a tea party candidate, have already filed.

Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear has token opposition in his party's primary. Harlan County scrap metal dealer Otis Hensley plans to file before the Tuesday evening deadline.

Independent candidate Gatewood Galbraith, a Lexington lawyer, also is running.
