LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. worked through the night of April 9 to make sure hundreds of thousands of federal workers could keep working for the rest of 2011. After months of bitter debate drawn along party lines Democrats and Republicans finally signed off on a bill that will help to avoid furloughs for federal workers and suspension of key government services.
President Barack Obama said the bill will allow small businesses to get the loans they need, families to get the mortgages they applied for, and Americans to take home their paychecks on time, including brave men and women in uniform.
Republican speaker John Boehner said he is pleased that he, Senator Reid and the White House have been able to come to agreement that will cut spending and keep the government open. The deal cuts around $38 billion from the budget, the largest domestic spending cut in United States history.
