Woman killed in workplace accident identified

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police and federal safety officials are investigating the workplace death of a 50-year-old woman at a business in the Watterson Park area.
Shortly after 4 p.m., authorities were called to KBR Manufacturing at 3899 Produce Road where an employee was found dead. According to MetroSafe, the victim, identified as Sylvia Walters of Taylorsville, KY, was found by other employees who called 911.
According to Dwight Mitchell, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson, Walters was in the process of moving a piece of granite when it fell and pinned her. Walters was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mitchell says police are treating the death as a workplace accident. An OSHA team has been requested at the scene as part of the investigation.
Deputy coroner Bob Jones says that Walters died from blunt force injuries. An autopsy will be completed April 12.
