Governor Beshear prepared to campaign against Republican opponent
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Candidates running for the Kentucky Republican Gubernatorial Nomination will know their fate Tuesday during the primary election.
Polls open at 6 in the morning and will close at 6 p.m. The candidates are Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw, Louisville Businessman Phil Moffett, and State Senate President David Williams.
Meanwhile in the Democratic race, Governor Steve Beshear and his running mate, former Louisville Mayor, Jerry Abramson, are running unopposed. The pair is ready to campaign against the winner of the KY Primary Election in the November election.
On Saturday, Governor Beshear appeared at the Louisville/Jefferson County Democratic Fundraiser held at the Galt House on Main Street. The keynote speaker was Maryland's Governor, Martin O'Malley. O'Malley is the Chairman of the Democratic Governor's Association. O'Malley said the association supports Governor Beshear. He did not say how much they were giving financially.
In the last two weeks of April, Beshear's campaign banked $222,000, pushing his total to 5 million. Current polls put State Senate President David Williams and Richie Farmer as the likely Republican opponents. The Williams camp raised nearly $77,000 around the end of April.
