LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's election day in Kentucky, with polls open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.  With an extremely low voter turnout expected, every vote will be crucial.

Around Kentucky, voter turnout is only expected to be 10% according to Nore Ghibaudy with the Jefferson County Clerk's Office.  He expects voter turnout in Jefferson County to be around 20% since there are so many Jefferson County residents running in the races.

The biggest race is for Kentucky Governor, with three different Republican candidates running:  Senate President David Williams with Lieutenant Governor Richie Farmer (current Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture); Jefferson County Clerk Barbara "Bobbie" Holsclaw with Lieutenant Governor Bill Vermillion, Jr.; and Louisville businessman Phil Moffett with Lieutenant Governor Mike Harmon (currently a Representative).

On the Democratic ticket, Governor Steve Beshear is running unopposed and will not be on the ballot.

Other races for Kentucky voters include State Treasurer, Secretary of State, Auditor of Public Accounts and Commissioner of Agriculture.

You are only allowed to vote for the party you are registered with; for example, only Republicans can vote Republican. Those registered as Independent won't be able to vote in the Primary.

A valid drivers license or photo ID is required when you cast your vote.

Investigators from the Kentucky Attorney General's office are out monitoring the polls to make sure there's no issues of voter fraud. Attorney General Jack Conway urges citizens who suspect anything improper at their polling location to call the election fraud hotline at (800) 328-8683. During last year's primary election, the hotline received 116 calls from 43 counties.
