LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – After an audit found that Louisville Metro Animal Services lacked quality leadership and had numerous internal problems, Mayor Greg Fischer announced that the city would partner with a public agency in order to revamp the organization. June 6 was the deadline for proposals to be turned and only one agency, No Kill Louisville, applied to take over Metro Animal Services.

Jessica Reid, president of No Kill Louisville, says that under their proposal they will work to make LMAS a no kill shelter. They also plan to revamp and repurpose the building on Manslick Road.

Reid also says they will focus on better communication, a strong volunteer base from the community and introduce an aggressive spay and neuter program.

The city will meet with No Kill Louisville in the coming weeks.

When the privatization plan was first announced, Fischer had hopes to have the new management in place by July 1.
