FRANKFORT, KY (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams is touting his reputation as a fighter in his latest TV ad while Democratic incumbent Steve Beshear continues attacking on the airwaves.

Williams, the often strident president of the Kentucky Senate, had tried to foster a nice guy image in past advertising, a tactic that hasn't seemed to work based on polling that shows him trailing Beshear by more than 20%age points.

The latest Williams ad that began airing Wednesday shows two men sitting at a lunch counter, talking about him. One says: "Seems like he's doing a lot of fighting."

The other says: "It's about time somebody started fighting."

The ad Beshear released Wednesday accuses Williams of being a career politician who has extravagantly spent taxpayer money during 26 years in the legislature.
