Shed fire brings challenges for firefighters

FAIRDALE, KY (WAVE) - Firefighters from Fairdale and Louisville battled an intense fire early Monday in a storage shed next to a home.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at 8901 Kessler Avenue, which just off Manslick Road and north of the Gene Snyder Freeway.

According to WAVE 3's Matt McCutcheon, the fire occurred in a metal shed that was used by homeowners in the area to store items. Because of some of the items stored inside, firefighters had to let the shed burn.

The fire created heavy smoke over the area, but no injuries have been reported. Fire officials said it may be some time before the fire is completely out.

Firefighters were hampered trying to reach the fire scene. Kessler Avenue is a long gravel road and overnight rains made getting both manpower and equipment in to fight the fire difficult.
