LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The victim in Louisville's most recent homicide has been identified.

24-year-old Steve J. Louis was killed Wednesday afternoon after being shot in the chest in the 100 block of West Woodlawn.

Police arrested 26-year-old Darrell Taylor for murder within eight hours of the crime. Taylor is behind bars at Metro Corrections for murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun as a convicted felon.

Police believe Louis  may have been visiting his mother and that Louis and Taylor were acquaintances.

Lt. Barry Wilkerson said, "Mr. Taylor does have an extensive past. There are some drug charges and I believe a previous robbery and assault charge, so an extensive past. Obviously anytime you get an individual like this off the street it's a win for the community."

Police said there was an altercation between the two men, but would not state what it was.
