Police-involved shooting in Seymour; shooter on the loose

SEYMOUR, IN (WAVE) - A traffic stop in Seymour, Indiana quickly escalated Monday night when the driver of a pick-up truck fired shots at an Indiana State Police Officer.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the area of I-65 and U.S. 50 at the 50 mile marker. That's a busy area of Seymour, where nearly a dozen hotel and other businesses are located.
The trooper was not hit and was not injured.
Indiana State Police say they have identified the suspect as John Michael Fish, 35. He is a white male, 5'10" tall, and about 156 pounds with short cropped Blonde hair and Blue eyes.
Fish had a last known address in the Indianapolis area and could possibly be trying to get back to Indianapolis.
Police tell WAVE 3 that Fish should be considered armed and dangerous.
Dozens of police officers from the city, county, and state swarmed the scene to search the area, included a wooded area behind some of the businesses.
"The Ryan's Steak House over here they went ahead and cleared it out and all of the apartments and hotels over there and they've gone to all the rooms and told everyone to stay inside and lock down and don't get out and certainly if they saw anyone to call the authorities," Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze told WAVE 3 News.
Police advise drivers to be careful in all areas of Seymour, including the interstate where they say its possible that Fish could be hitchhiking his way back to Indianapolis.
Fish does have a criminal past.
Anyone with information about the location of Fish is asked to call the Indianapolis State Police post at 317-899-8577.
