LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Investigators are working to pinpoint the cause of an early morning fire that damaged the clubhouse of an apartment complex in Fern Creek.
The blaze happened at the Park at Hurstbourne Apartments near the intersection of Bardstown Road and Hurstbourne Parkway.
The flashing lights and charred brick tell the tale of the fire. Shortly after it was reported around 3:30 a.m. Monday, smoke could be seen coming from the complex's clubhouse. At one point flames shot through the roof of the building, but firefighters quickly gained control. The damage, however, had already been done.
"The front side has a big pool area, not much damage there," said Deputy chief Robert Storrie of the Fern Creek Fire Department. "What we have here is the exercise area, and that's pretty much total damage in that area."
It's not yet clear what all was lost in the blaze. The task at hand now for firefighters is to figure out what sparked the blaze. For the staff of the Parks at Hurstbourne, the job is to begin picking up the pieces.
This was not the first time a blaze has sparked at the apartment complex. In the past eight months, at least two other fires have forced more than 60 units to be evacuated.
Late Monday, arson invetsigators said the cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature. Their investigation is continuing.
